Elks Voluntary Service Representatives are keeping busy this spring and summer! With nicer weather, many volunteers are planning for activities and events where veterans can enjoy the outdoors together. Read on to learn more about what some of our volunteers will be doing in the next few months.
Earlier this spring, Voluntary Service Representative Patricia Graves served an outdoor lunch at the Arlington Cemetery USO to Army members completing three weeks of training. While food delivery is a regular monthly activity, this meal was a special occasion to celebrate the completion of the training.
This summer George Yusko, Voluntary Service Representative at the Lyons, New Jersey VA Medical Center, is planning to take veterans out for a day at the ballpark to see a Somerset Patriots baseball game. After spending extended time indoors, a game and picnic will be a welcome relief for Lyons veterans. They’ll get to enjoy hot dogs and hamburgers while they spend time together.
In South Dakota, Representative John Phelan continues his tradition of taking veterans from Hot Springs VA on monthly outings to the Laughing Waters restaurant and Crazy Horse monument. Having a regular trip to spend time eating good food, talking together, and taking in the beautiful scenery is something these veterans look forward to.
Elks like Patricia, George, John, and Trudy are volunteering across the country at over 360 veterans' facilities, providing support on a monthly basis. If you'd like to become a Representative and join this network of Elks supporting veterans, visit our Voluntary Service page to learn more about the program.
