A Community Force
Bremerton, Wash., Lodge No. 1181 is a force in their community, utilizing Community Investments Grants to provide disaster preparedness for local youth. In 2020, the Lodge received an Impact Grant, they expanded their outreach and work with Kids Up Head Start Program to provide more than 4,000 books to kids living in low-income households. Take A CIP: Episode 10
The 2021-22 grants deadline is just days away! The deadline to apply is Monday, January 17. Programs Coordinators Meaghan Morris and Sam Kayuha give an overview of the three available grants and how to use them. The ENF office will be closed on Monday, January 17, in observance of Martin Luther King Day, so if you have questions about your grant application, contact the Community Investments Program office at LodgeGrants@elks.org or 773-755-4730.

As the COVID-19 crisis began to unfold last spring, Elks Lodges were shuttered. People were getting sick. Healthcare workers were overwhelmed. One in six Americans faced food insecurity by the end of the summer. Then, the Community Investments Program grant year opened. Elks said, “not in my community.” With CIP grants and an unwavering commitment to service, we changed the news.

Shine a Spotlight on Service: Spotlight Grant How-To
The Community Investments Program debuted the Spotlight Grant in 2019-20. Every Lodge will have the opportunity to use this $2,000 grant to shine a light on two important issues facing nearly every American community—family literacy and homelessness among our nation’s veterans. This video explains how the Spotlight Grant works and features a grant in action. Hyannis, Massachusetts, Lodge No. 1549 uses a Spotlight Grant to address family literacy through a Community Baby Shower project. (Runtime: 4 mins., 17 secs.)
CIP Grants: Opened Doors
CIP Grants have opened doors in the Oshkosh community. Pam Schedivy, Grants Coordinator at Oshkosh, Wis., Lodge No. 292 and members of the Lodge are using an Impact Grant to run the The Feed, Read & Arts Program to address childhood illiteracy and food insecurity, and to provide cultural arts programs at a local elementary school. Jeff Mitchell, the 2015 CIP Volunteer of the Year
Jeff Mitchell is the 2014-15 Community Investments Program Volunteer of the Year. Mitchell leads the Lodge in the use of an Impact Grant. Through the EFELT project, Elks partner with local schools to identify youth in need, and provide them with a backpack of food each Friday afternoon as they leave school.
