Acting as ENF Chair of a Lodge with only 175 members presents unique fundraising challenges for Nave.
“It’s not always easy,” he admits. “Because of the size of our Lodge, I’m often asking the same people for donations.”
To avoid pursuing donors who’ve already done their part, Nave uses the online Warning List Report to identify active donors who haven’t yet made their annual donation for 2009-10. This report is available on the Lodge Chair Only page in the Volunteers Section of the ENF website.
“I’m not a whiz with computers,” Nave says, “but I’m really pleased to have ENF reports online. It helps me keep up with everything!”
Nave also utilizes brochures and other supplies, which may be ordered free of charge at www.elks.org/enf/SupplyOrders.cfm, to spread the word about the ENF. As Lodge ENF Chair for over 15 years, Nave has two pieces of advice for other Lodge Chairs.
“First, be informed about the Foundation. If you read up on ENF news, you’ll have plenty to say when someone asks why they should donate,” says Nave. “Second, strive for that per-capita goal. But once you reach it, don’t stop!”
And Nave is certainly qualified to give advice! He’s particularly proud that his Lodge has reached the GER’s per-capita goal every year he’s served as ENF Chair. He hopes to train a successor in the next few years to take on the Chairmanship and follow his example of ENF fundraising success. It sounds like a lucky member will have big shoes to fill!
