Carolyn Shupe
Santa Barbara, Calif., Lodge No. 613
About two years ago, Carolyn Shupe decided to join her local Elks Lodge and with her experience as a teacher, was immediately assigned to maintain the Lodge’s bulletin boards. When the Leading Knight at her Lodge asked her to take on the ENF Chairmanship, she gladly accepted.

“At the time, I had made donations, but I didn’t know the ins and outs of the ENF,” Shupe recalls. “I always loved the scholarship programs they funded, and I was eager to learn more!” Once she had a feel for all the ENF programs, Shupe got to work. She wanted everyone to be a part of the good deeds she believes in.

When Lodge members asked, “What is the ENF doing for us?”, she applied for and received Community Investment Program grants, which the Lodge used for their favorite charitable programs.

“People started paying attention once we got the green,” Shupe jokes. “But honestly, showing people that ENF gives money back to Lodges is a great motivator.”

In tough economic times, Shupe reminds her donors that every dollar counts, and asks them to give as little or as much as they can comfortably give. In her first year as ENF Chair, Shupe has made the ENF’s presence in her Lodge very clear. We can’t wait to see what she has in store next!
