Greag "Butch" Meriwether
Kingman, Ariz. No. 468
As a first-time ENF Chair, Greag “Butch” Meriwether wanted to make a name for himself. With a lofty goal of $15 per capita at the beginning of this year, Meriwether planned a number of ENF fundraisers to attain his goal. Kicking off this plan of action in June, Meriwether and his fellow Kingman Elks hosted a Luau. Complete with a pig roast and grass skirts, these Elks celebrated in style while raising money for the ENF from ticket sales. “You have to be innovative,” says Meriwether. “What it comes down to is hosting something that people are going to want to come to and have fun!” To keep the fundraising ball rolling, Meriwether hosted a Car Show, raising funds from ticket sales and commemorative dash clock magnets. As for the future, Meriwether is selling $5 tickets for a raffle through the end of January with a hand-crafted Elks grill as the main prize. Meriwether is also bringing ENF Programs into the Lodge. He's taking full advantage of the Community Investments Program by applying for a Promise Grant and being eligible for a Gratitude Grant by already surpassing the GER's $4.50 per-capita goal. The Kingman Elks currently have a per capita of more than $10. We are excited to see whether they will surpass Meriwhether's stately goal of $15 per capita!
