Keith Barker
Clovis-Portales, NM, Lodge No. 1244
Eight years after his Initiation, Keith Barker first discovered the ENF. At the New Mexico State Convention, he saw an ENF presentation and decided to change the existing attitude at his Lodge. Barker became ER the next year, and ENF chair the following. "We needed to get back to doing what we were supposed to do, and it was time to do it right," he says.

One problem he's dealt with is a lack of volunteers. "I've had many instances in which you"re practically organizing the event yourself," he says. "But if you're a good leader and enjoy what you do, others will want to lend a hand."

Barker has held many fundraisers throughout his three-year tenure as chair, the most successful of which was a cowboy barbecue. The meal included brisket and apple cobbler, and raised more than $1,000 for the ENF. "We've tried many ideas, but the one that was the most successful related the most to our community," Barker says. "I would suggest doing something that's culturally prevalent in your area, and if you go the extra mile to get people there, they'll come."
