"Being an Elks Legacy Scholar has made me even more committed to the Elks' values of dedicated hard work and service to others. I plan to carry these values with me as I enter the next chapter of my life. With the Weigel Medical School Scholarship, I will continue to embody these ideals as I work to provide compassionate, holistic care to the patients in my community and to expand access to healthcare at the state and national levels."
After losing her husband, Gunther, to a staph infection in November 2009, the late Lee Weigel wanted to improve the quality of healthcare in our country. To realize that goal, she partnered with the Elks National Foundation to endow the Gunther and Lee Weigel Medical School Scholarship, which helps Elks scholars pursue careers in medicine.
