John’s fundraising techniques are simple. He personally asks members of his Lodge for donations, explaining where the money will go and why they should support the Foundation. Because he has been an Elk for 21 years, he knows most members personally, and uses this to his advantage. He advises other Volunteers to get an early start on their fundraising efforts and not wait until the last minute, because that is often too late to really make a difference.
John also recognizes the responsibility of fundraisers, not only to increase donations but to heighten awareness of the Foundation. To raise awareness during ENF month, an American flag blanket was raffled off. All money raised was donated to the Foundation in the name of a Lodge member with disabilities.
As a Past Exalted Ruler, John finds himself involved in almost everything that goes on at his Lodge. However, he recognizes the need for change. After dedicating himself to the leadership of one committee for a few years, he likes to move on to something else, so that someone with fresh ideas can take over. This tactic certainly worked for the ENF, and we hope he’ll stick around for a few more years.
