2016 Legacy Awards Recipient University of Alabama— Apparel and Textiles Major Sponsored by Cullman, Ala., Lodge No. 1609
Elks scholars are high achievers in more than just academics. They also shine in athletics, community service, and the arts. 2016 Legacy scholar Peyton Blair understands this well, as she excelled in multiple fields in high school and is continuing to stay involved in college.
Peyton was active in numerous activities, including being captain of the School Color Guard, where she led members in daily practice, performances, and competitions and playing varsity soccer. She also served on the yearbook staff and volunteered as a student ambassador, welcoming new students to campus and assisting with school events. She also volunteered in her community through her high school’s Leo Club and as a senior leader in her youth group, volunteering with numerous community service events. In between extracurricular activities, she found time to develop business insight through working with her father in the family printing business.
Now at the University of Alabama, Peyton is studying Apparel and Textiles with a concentration in Fashion Retailing. She hopes to continue exploring her creativity and knowledge of business during her time there, while forging strong relationships with family, friends, and professors. She is already off to a great start by being a member of the Honors College and the First Friends student organization, which seeks to foster cultural communication and understanding by pairing undergrads with new exchange students to show them student life at the university.
Peyton is proud to be called an Elks scholar and to be a part of this impressive group, while representing the Elks through her accomplishments.
“Being an Elks scholar means more than words can express. It means opportunity, adventure, and discovery,” says Peyton. “I am beyond blessed and thankful to be an Elks scholar and can’t wait to see where I go.”;
In 2016-17, the Elks National Foundation allocated $1.13 million to fund 250 scholarships for the children and grandchildren of Elks. If you know any Elks children who are high school seniors, encourage them to visit enf.elks.org/leg for information, including eligibility and deadlines
