Marion Elks Lodge No. 32 is pleased to announce that Rachel E. Fleming and Jennifer M Osborne have received a “Most Valuable Student” college scholarship through the Ohio Elks Association. Both were recognized and awarded the merit-based award during a special Youth Day luncheon held in conjunction with the spring meeting of the Ohio Elks in Columbus on April 24th, 2004.The Elks Most Valuable Student Awards are $1,000 scholarships applied to accredited American schools, colleges or universities. Osborne is a senior at Elgin High School and plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University in the fall. Fleming is also a senior at Elgin and plans to attend Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. Selection of the scholarship winners is based upon financial need, leadership and scholastic merit. 64 Ohio Elks awards were given this year.Rachel Fleming is the daughter of Bruce Fleming of Larue. Jennifer Osborne is the daughter of Margo and Ron Osborne of Marion. Through its many scholarship programs, the National and State Elks organizations award nearly $3.2 million a year in college scholarships. In so doing, the Elks are second only to the Federal government in the total amount annually awarded to college students in the U.S.
