2025 MVS Application Open

Applications for the 2025 Most Valuable Student Scholarship are open until November 12, 2024. All high school seniors who are United States citizens are eligible to apply. Judged based on leadership, service, academics, and financial need, the Top 20 applicants receive $30,000 scholarships. The 480 runners-up receive $4,000. Learn more and apply at enf.elks.org/MVS.

A Mark on My Heart: Elks Scholars in Philadelphia

From March 7 to 11, eight Elks scholars traveled to Philadelphia for the Spring Elks Scholar Service Trip. The scholars had diverse backgrounds, with some coming from towns of less than a few thousand people and others coming from some of the biggest cities in the country. Though the scholars had very different upbringings, they were able to see the beauty in their differences—while finding plenty of similarities.

Elks Scholar Service Trips: A Commitment to Community

In January, the first Elks Scholar Service Trip of 2024 was held in Phoenix. Led by Elks Scholar Fellow Libby Willkomm, the trip was the embodiment of what it means to be an Elks scholar.

Weigel Winners: Finding the "Why"

Some high school seniors head to college with their major in mind and their life planned out ahead of them, and others hope to find their passion by trying new things. But, all students are looking to find and maintain their “why,” the meaning to their goals. The Gunther and Lee Weigel Medical School Scholarship is for those Elks scholars who found their “why” in pursuing a career in medicine.

2023 MVS Leadership Weekend: Service-Minded, Elk-Bonded

For the first time since 2019, the Top 20 Most Valuable Student scholars gathered in person to get to know one another, as well as current Elks scholars and alums; interview for the top awards of $50,000, $40,000 and $30,000; and learn about their new #ElksFamily.

MVS Scholars Put in the Work

For the first time since 2019, the Top 20 MVS scholars came to the Windy City for an in-person Leadership Weekend, where they interviewed for the top awards and got to know their #ElksFamily. Service & Sunshine in Florida

Twenty-one Elks scholars went to Tampa for the Winter Elks Scholar Service Trip to serve alongside Elks. They sorted clothes, served in a food kitchen, and helped clean up debris from Hurricane Ian. Read about the experience in this blog post from 2019 Most Valuable Student scholar Aditi V. Patel.

Season of Service: Elks Scholars Serve in Chicago and Seattle

Finding a Place in the #ElksFamily

2018 MVS scholar Aleah Hahn has found her place in the Elks family through Elks Scholar Service Trips. In 2018, she attended the 150 for 150 service trip in San Antonio, and this March, she made her way to Chicago for another one. Though the trips were different in size and place, they shared a few things in common: connection, service and a new experience.

Scholar Service Grants are Open!

This year, the Elks National Foundation will award 12 Service Grants to current Elks scholars. Grant applications for 2022 opened in January and close on February 22. This year's theme is "For the Kids." Winners will be announced by the end of February.

The energy in the Chicago board room was unmistakable—our fearless SAB members are ready to take Elks scholar engagement to the next level. 2022 MVS Contest

The 2022 Most Valuable Student scholarship application opened on August 2 and closed November 15. The 500 four-year scholarships are awarded based on academics, service, leadership and financial need. The ENF will announce the winners in late March.

2022 Legacy Awards Contest

The 2022 Legacy Awards contest launched on September 1, 2021. Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships for high school seniors who are the children and/or grandchildren of dues-paying Elks.

The two newest members of the Elks National Foundation’s staff are testaments to one of our biggest goals: that our program recipients become champions of the Order.

Next Stop: Med School

We are proud to announce the recipients of the 2020 Gunther and Lee Weigel Medical School Scholarship—Afeera Chaudhry, Dennis Youngs, Eric Xia, Iemaan Rana, Kevin Glover, Nicholas Balardi, Olivia Fuson and Victoria Cegielski. These eight Elks scholars will be achieving their dreams of becoming doctors thanks to the generosity of the late Mrs. Lee Weigel. Each scholar will receive $26,000 for medical school. 2021 MVS Contest

The Elks National Foundation is proud to announce the start of the 2021 Most Valuable Student scholarship contest on August 5, 2020. The Most Valuable Student scholarship is available to high school seniors who are United States citizens. Applicants do not need to be related to a member of the Elks. Applications are judged on academics, leadership, service and financial need. The application is completed online and must be submitted by the November 15, 2020, deadline. Julia Miao gives her passions her all. Miao, a 2015 MVS scholar sponsored by Sunnyvale, Calif., Lodge No. 2128, volunteered at hospitals and care facilities and founded two healthcare- and education-focused organizations and a digital peer-reviewed journal. She was honored with academic, research, community service, and leadership awards and grants. She ran marathons, founded and edited peer-reviewed journals, published research, tutored and taught, and saved time to nurture her love of photography and playing the piano.

Lydia Tam is one of six recipients of the Gunther & Lee Weigel Medical School Scholarship. Tam will receive her medical school education at Stanford University and is studying pediatric neuro-oncology, a field that's close to her heart. Read Tam's story here.

Serving in the San Antonio Sun

“Elks family is the accumulation of hard work, dedication, laughter, service and togetherness that brought us to this point,” shared 2016 MVS scholar Cullen Edens. “It's the life stories while gardening in 100 degree heat. It's the intense competition of who can count the most donations. It's the fun of playing games until curfew. It's the hard work and teamwork of ripping out thorny rose bushes. Elks family is the lifelong memories of serving the San Antonio community together.”
