Wayne Willson, Veterans Coordinator Elks Lodge #2177 introduces guest speaker Kyle Cory-Yaeggi
On November 11, Carson City Elks Lodge #2177 held its annual Veterans dinner that was free to all member veterans and their spouses. There were 45 veterans of all services among the 65 attendees. Dinner was prepared and served by Elks Volunteers. In addition to remarks by Elks Veterans Coordinator, Wayne Willson, Guest Speaker Kyle Cory-Yaeggi spoke on an upcoming service dog training program for Veterans known as Liberty Dogs, which will open in south Reno in 2026. The goal is to provide our nation’s heroes with the ability to lead more independent and fulfilling lives via enhanced mobility. All services are offered at no cost and include the Liberty Service Dog, and travel to/from the campus. Liberty Dogs is funded by Nevada residents Dave and Cheryl Duffield. The Duffields are the founders of the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation, which focuses on supporting military Veterans, animal causes and giving back to their local community. Additionally, a raffle raised $654 for the Veterans fund. The event ended with a rousing video of all military branch songs as Veterans stood and sang along.
