The eighth annual South Dakota Kite Day is tomorrow, Wednesday, June 12. Locally, it is being held at Hilger’s Gulch in Pierre.
The free event starts at 1 p.m. The sponsors — NextEra Energy Resources and the Pierre Elks Lodge #1953 — plan on activities going to at least 4 p.m., though people may continue on as they wish.
Everyone is welcome. Children ages 14 and under are especially encouraged to participate. The first 400 children will receive a free kite and a lesson on how to properly fly their kite. Elks members will hand out the kites, and will assist in putting them together and getting them to fly. Parents are encouraged to get involved. Bring your cameras.
