The History of Severna Park Elks Lodge No. 2482

Early Years and Formation:

  • Late 1971: Elks members from Annapolis and Glen Burnie, residing in the Severna Park area, began discussing the formation of a local lodge.
  • January 11, 1972: The first organizational meeting was held.
  • June 1972: The application for a Charter was granted, establishing Severna Park Lodge No. 2482.
  • October 14, 1972: The Lodge was instituted with a charter membership of 202 members.
  • December 9, 1972: Dedication ceremonies were held.

Acquiring Property and Building:

  • May 4, 1973: The Lodge purchased a 6.294-acre plot of land with a converted two-story farmhouse at the corner of Truck House and Jennings Roads in Severna Park.
  • 1974: A 30-foot by 60-foot pavilion was built on the property.
  • 1979: A 20-foot by 20-foot outside storage building was completed.
  • 1981: The Grand Lodge approved the Lodge to sell up to $100,000 in bonds for a new Lodge home.
  • January 1983: A building permit was granted.
  • February 20, 1983: The groundbreaking ceremony was held.
  • July 11, 1983: The occupancy permit for the completed building was received.
  • August 6, 1983: The building was dedicated and began serving as a combination Lodge hall and meeting room.

Continued Expansion and Improvements:

  • 1989: A 1,600-square foot storage building was constructed, primarily by the members.
  • May 15, 1989: A contract was signed to build a 50-foot by 80-foot members building.
  • July 9, 1989: The groundbreaking ceremony for the members building was held.
  • 1990: The dedication ceremony for the members building took place.
  • 1995: The parking area was paved.
  • March 23, 2001: Grand Exalted Ruler Dwayne E. Rumney made his official visit.
  • April 1, 2001: The Lodge passed a motion to become a non-smoking facility.
  • June 15, 2006: A 16-foot by 30-foot Grounds Equipment Storage Building was completed.
