Mouse Techniques

It is particularly convenient to operate CLMS - Chicago Lodge Membership System with a mouse. The mouse pointer appears on your screen when Windows starts. The pointer is usually an arrow that contrasts with whatever it rests upon.

When you roll the mouse, the pointer moves. You can position the pointer and click (press and release the left mouse button) to select an item, “press”a button or anchor the cursor. The cursor marks the location where action will occur.

New to a Mouse?

If you are new to a mouse, before you begin to use a mouse with CLMS - Chicago Lodge Membership System read carefully the following:

Place the mouse on a flat surface to the left or right of your keyboard, depending on whether you are right or left handed or on whichever side it is most comfortable.
Place your palm on top of the mouse with your fingers or fingertips resting on the mouse buttons and practice rolling the mouse.

In CLMS - Chicago Lodge Membership System you’ll notice that rolling the mouse forward and backward on the flat surface causes the pointer to move up and down on your screen.

Rolling the mouse right and left moves the pointer right and left.
Roll the mouse to the edge of the flat surface, pick it up and move it back to the center of the surface and place it again on the flat surface and continue rolling. Notice that the pointer does not move while the mouse is in the air, but resumes from the place it left off once the mouse is replaced on the surface.

Note

The left button on your mouse is the only button CLMS "usually" requires at the present stage of development.

When you move the mouse above buttons and fields a short help will be shown in a yellow box to the right of the main window.

Mouse users may wish to use the keyboard to take advantage of the Control key shortcuts. By pressing a Control key combination you can choose options without displaying the menu. See Keyboard Usage for details.
