ENF Scholar Speaker: Jayme Mattson

On a wall in Jayme Mattson’s dorm room hangs a plaque. “If you can imagine it, you can achieve it; if you can dream it, you can become it.”

The 2008 Legacy Award winner and freshman at the University of Central Missouri, has taken this William Arthur Ward quote to heart, and she recently shared her determination with the Clinton, Mo., Elks Lodge.

“We’re all very impressed with Jayme and her campus involvement,” said Kevin Young, Clinton Lodge’s Public Relations Chair, after Jayme’s speaking engagement. “She explained how her Legacy Award has allowed her to work toward accomplishing her goals and demonstrated the great importance of supporting the ENF.”

Jayme intends to become a speech pathologist. Thanks to her Legacy Award, she has time to participate in extracurricular activities that are helping her pursue her dreams.

She is active in the National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association, which allows her to network with other students who have similar professional goals. Last fall, Jayme and fellow NSSLHA members hosted a spaghetti dinner to raise money for Operation Smile, an organization that provides financial assistance to families of children with cleft lips. Because of her outstanding academic record, she is also a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. In order to relax, she plays intramural volleyball on a team that she organized last fall.

“My life could not be any better right now,” Jayme explains. “Since I don’t have to put in as many hours of work, I’m able to experience more campus activities, join different organizations and meet more people. I’m truly grateful for my ENF scholarship.”

We are confident that Jayme will soon realize her dream by owning her own speech pathology practice!
