The
Elks Scholar Advisory Board had some big ideas while visiting the biggest little city in the world. From July 12 to 15, the SAB convened in Reno during the Elks National Convention where they shared ideas about engaging Elks scholars.
Let’s Get Together
After arriving in Reno on Friday, the Elks Scholar Advisory Board gathered for dinner with the
Elks National Foundation Board of Trustees. The two Boards got to know each other over a lovely meal.
Throughout the weekend, Scholar Advisory Board members Macy Warburton and Maryann Slater took to Twitter to tweet about all things convention. They served as guest tweeters for the Elks National Foundation and spread the word about Convention using #ENFinReno. Macy tweeted, “A past scholarship chair stopped by the ENF booth to say, when you received your scholarship, you became family.”
Brainstorming and Bowling
On Saturday, the Elks scholars met to discuss successes and challenges from the previous year and new ways to get Elks scholars involved with each other, local Elks Lodges, and the Elks National Foundation. After the meeting, it was off to visit the Elks National Foundation booth in the convention hall. There, the scholars met Elks members from across the country and shared what their scholarships mean to them. They visited their respective State Association booths and discovered all the ways Elks are helping to build stronger communities.
The Board had the opportunity to meet ENF supporters Saturday night at the National Bowling Stadium. Before they showed off their bowling skills, Jesse LeBeau received his 2013 Elks Alum of the Year award.
Making Connections
On Sunday morning, the Board sat on a panel where they shared their thoughts about how Elks members can engage Elks scholars in their own communities. The attendees left with ideas about how they can form relationships with Elks scholars. A video of the panel will be online soon!
Throughout the weekend, the Elks Scholar Advisory Board members learned so much more about the Elks and how they serve their communities. The Elks Scholar Advisory Board and the Elks National Foundation can’t wait to continue building relationships with all Elks scholars and alumni.
To enhance scholar relations and communication, the Elks Scholar Advisory Board was founded in 2009. For more information about the Elks Scholar Advisory Board, please visit www.elks.org/enf/scholars/scholaradvisoryboard.cfm.
